The Hills School is a positive, safe and caring learning environment that prides itself on catering to the individual needs and goals of each student.
Each student is provided with an individual learning program that is inclusive of all key learning areas. This involves both Individual Education Programs (IEPs) and Individual Transition Programs (ITPs).
Each student at The Hills School benefits from a nurturing environment that focuses on the welfare of students and their families. Learning programs aim to build self-esteem, responsible behaviour and a strong sense of community pride.
Each student's learning is supported and enhanced by teaching strategies that cater for individual learning styles. A strong focus on literacy and numeracy provides a sound foundation for learning across the curriculum.
Students, parents, teachers and the broader community work together to foster the understanding of different cultural customs and values.
Our teachers are committed to developing student communication, high quality teaching and leadership and enhacing lifelong learning for all. This results in an innovative school community where students outcomes are improved through the use of best practice teaching and learning programs.
Student learning groups are structured into primary and high school classes. All primary classes are called Adina (meaning Happy) and Akuna (meaning Flowing water). All high school classes are called Orana (meaning welcome) and Marlee (meaning old tree). The names Adina, Akuna, Orana and Marlee are endorsed learning team names from an Aboriginal Elder from the Aboriginal tribe of the Dhurag People.
