Returning to face-to-face learning

Mark Gosbell, Principal of The Hills School

Principal’s Message:

Hello to all our families and welcome to our Term 4 Week 3 Newsletter. This is our first newsletter for the term and the first since we’ve had many of our students return under the staged return to school plan.

The last few months have been especially challenging for us all. We are really pleased to have our students starting to return to school and we know that this will be harder for some than others. I encourage all parents and carers to get in touch with your class teacher if you have any concerns and we’ll work through them with you.

This week we have had our Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 12 students return and next week, from Monday 25 October, we will have all other grades returning to face-to-face learning.

Some key elements of staying safe at The Hills School are summarised as follows:

- All staff are fully vaccinated

- Our classes are arranged in small groups to minimise contact

- Staff wear masks indoors and we encourage students to do so as well

There is of course much more in place as we implement layers of COVID safe practice at school, too much for this newsletter, so we encourage you please consider the information available at: https://education.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/advice-for-families

We have been delighted with the response to our live-streams and pre-recorded lessons. The teaching staff have thoroughly enjoyed adapting our practice to bring these to you. With the shift back to face-to-face learning, from next week we will no longer be presenting live-stream material, but families will still be able to find the previous lessons on our Learning from Home page.

In coming back to school, we will be using the learning from home experience along with the coming weeks of face-to-face teaching to inform a modified report for Semester 2. We will use a combination of teacher assessment and parent feedback to inform this process and look forward to sharing this through the reports at the end of the year.

Thank you again for the tremendous cooperation and support received from all families through the last few months. We’re looking forward to all of our students returning and getting on with the busy term ahead.
