Anzac Day Service

Anzac Day service 22

Principal's message:

Hello parents and friends of The Hills School. Welcome to our first newsletter of Term 2.

Staff Professional Learning

On Tuesday 26 April staff participated in a packed day of training and development centred on supporting students through assessment, identifying and planning communication supports, sensory processing and its impact on teaching and learning and epilepsy training.

Anzac Day Service

On Friday 29 April we were privileged to be a part of the Hills School Anzac Day service. The service was developed by several teachers keen to ensure that our students were aforded an accessible opportunity to engage in remembering our Anzacs and paying respects to those who serve and have served in our defence forces. The service was a student-centred occasion with many individuals and classes making unique contributions. I would like to thank all that were involved for developing the plan and anyone who baked Anzac biscuits, decorated our ceremonial area, brought in props for the display or made artworks for the day.

Mini Woolworths

Developing skills for life is a key part of work at The Hills School each day. How we communicate and interact with each other, how we engage in our world are signifcant areas for teaching and learning so that we can empower our students to be active members of society. Learning real world skills takes time and can be hard to transfer from the school setting to home and beyond. At school we develop learning spaces that seek to expand opportunities for our students. The Mini Woolworths programs will be a key part of that. Woolworths have ofered to set up a fully functional miniature shopping centre learning environment at The Hills. The Woolies team will convert part of our garage storage space into “The Hills Fresh Food” teaching shop complete with shelves, groceries, name badges, aprons and best of all a functioning scanner and cash register. Our classes can access the shop for lessons learning to stock shelves, order online, scan and pack items and much more. This is a signifcant lifelong learning opportunity for our students, and we’re thrilled to be able to provide the program. The Hills Fresh Food is set to open at the beginning of Term 3.
