Year 12 Jerseys Presentation Assembly

Year 12 Jerseys presentation assembly

Principal's message

Hello all and welcome to our Term 2 Week 9 newsletter.

Important to start this weeks newsletter with a big shout out to our Year 12 students who were presented with their Year 12 jerseys at a special assesmbly. The jersey is a real rite of passage for all Year 12 students and very much marks a point in their school life where they have grown and matured and are 'set apart' from their younger peers. Our Year 12 students are well into their $nal year of school. Everyone has developed a transition plan and some have begun this journey by starting their post school programs by having occasional orientation visits and testing out their placements for next year. I want to say thank you to our P&C for subsidising the cost of the jerseys - I know our families appreciate the help. Thanks also to the sta+ that helped get the presentation together today - it was a really lovely event.

We had a brilliant surprise today - a treat for the whole school. One of our lovely community members knows we've all been working hard and asked to give the students and staff a special treat, so on Friday we had the ice cream van visit and we all enjoyed some ice creams and slushies. It was a lovely gesture which was greatly appreciated. Thank you mystery person!

Next week we celebrate National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee -NAIDOC week. NAIDOCs origins can be traced to the emergence of Aboriginal groups in the 1920′s which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the $rst week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. At The Hills School we're really looking forward to a busy day on Tuesday painting and reading stories guided by some of our First Nations parents and families.

Our annual P&C Move-a-thon is on again next Wednesday. This year the fundraising is being targeted at music therapy. We're hoping that you can join us for some fun movement and great family picnic time. Please feel free to contact the school if you're not sure of any details. We'll see you then.
