Book Week

Book week 23

Principal's message

Hello parents and carers and welcome to our school newsletter.

Book Parade

This week we celebrated the annual Children's Book Council Book Week  with a parade of students and staff dressed up as their favourite book  characters. Each year since 1945 the CBCA has brought children and books together across Australia through Children's Book Week®. During this time schools and public libraries spend one glorious week celebrating books and Australian children's authors and illustrators. Classroom teachers, teacher librarians and public librarians create colourful displays, develop activities, run competitions and tell stories relating to a theme to highlight the importance of reading. Thanks to all our families who helped prepare student costumes and to those who were able to join us on the day. Our  library has grown from the event - selling out the donation stand! Well done everyone.

Partners in Learning - The Hills School P&C

On Tuesday this week I was pleased to be joined by senior school student Cameron as we accepted a cheque for $7500 from the ever-generous Hills School P&C Association. The donation has been made to replenish our specialist bikes, teacher resource and library books along with a contribution for our annual School Administration and Support Staff appreciation week which starts on 4 September.

The P&C buses have been in full use throughout the week with numerous classes heading out for excursions and community access. This is an absolutely amazing resource and we're so fortunate to have Gonz helping us each day to get buses prepared and ready for action. Classes are going to local shopping centres, parks and even interschool sporting events like the recent Boccia and Ten-Pin bowling tournaments.

Staffing

Over the past few weeks we have been searching for a new Acting Deputy Principal to work alongside the leadership team at The Hills School. I am pleased to announce that we have secured the service of Annie Baker who will be joining us from Monday 28 August. Annie is coming to us from Holroyd School and has a wealth of experience in special education across numerous school settings. We are thrilled to have her. Welcome Annie.
